Bio

I am a Filipino-American actor.

Recent credits include: Dick Whittington (Theatre Royal Windsor); Go! The Musical (Upstairs at the Gatehouse); Mimma: The Musical (Cadogan Hall); The Changeling (Lazarus Theatre Company/Southwark Playhouse); Macbeth (Lazarus Theatre Company); and Better Things (FX/Hulu.)

Born in Japan, raised in Washington State (not DC!)

I graduated with a BA in Musical Theatre from the University of Washington, and have also trained at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow. I am also a proud alumnus of the American Theatre Wing’s SpringboardNYC Program (2015.)

My first job before graduating university was in 2016, with the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, WA - playing Guang-Li in a revisal of Lerner and Loewe’s Paint Your Wagon, having helped shape the role and the new script by Jon Marans in a previous workshop. I had since worked steadily all around the Seattle area, with companies such as ACT Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Village Theatre, ArtsWest, and Seattle Musical Theatre.

I received the 2016 5th Avenue Theatre Subscriber’s Choice Award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Featured Role, in addition to the 2017 BroadwayWorld Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Local) award for my performance as Bill Calhoun in Seattle Musical Theatre’s production of Kiss Me, Kate.

In 2019, I moved to London where I continue to find work - having expanded my skillset into TV, voiceover, classical texts, and devised physical theatre.

In 2021, I co-founded Halfpace Theatre Company with Megan Brewer - a migrant-led theatre company dedicated to new works and devised theatre made by underrepresented artists, producing our own work and offering support for early-mid career artists through free workshops, networking opportunities, and one-to-one meetings.

When I am not acting, you can find me reading a good book, playing video games, travelling, cooking, bouldering, going for walks along the South Bank of the River Thames, playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends, and learning the Filipino Martial Art of eskrima.

Nowadays you can find me in London with my wife and our black cat named Tetra.

Press

“Juan, as Thuy, strikes a tormented figure torn between his values and politics and a genuine affection for the young Kim with whom he was arranged to be married. Juan’s interpretation is powerful yet vulnerable and his vocals are simply outstanding. “

Steven STokoe, InNewcastle

“Mikko Juan is the show's stand out performer, between his effortlessly charming and dynamic stage presence and his ability to belt and sustain long notes, he's an absolutely joy to watch.”

Oviya Thirumalai, Adventures in Theatreland

“The cast delivers standout performances, particularly the lead role of Dick Whittington (Mikko Juan), played with charm and energy.”

Holly Clarke, Maidenhead Advertiser

“...Juan lead the show with aplomb and youthful exuberance, making him a joy to watch.”
